Cheeseburger with Sautéed Onions

Has this ever happened to you….

You’re really hungry and just haven’t had time to eat yet.

Then you smell that delicious smell of meat cooking on a BBQ….not your BBQ but someone else’s.

And it smells sooo good.

Then it happens, you go into starving mode.

And you start to crave a hamburger….no, a cheeseburger.

A cheeseburger with American cheese melted all over it.

And smothered in onions….no, smothered in onions sautéed in red wine.

A cheeseburger smothered in onions that are sautéed in red wine on a bun.

Not just any kind of bun but a big honkin Kaiser roll.

Well just in case this ever happens to you, I have just the recipe.  And you can cook it up right in a skillet.

Let’s check it out.

Here’s what you’ll need.

Ground beef, an onion, American cheese, olive oil, red wine, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a big Kaiser roll (or your fave roll or bun).

Here’s how to make it.

For the Onions:

Slice the onion.

Heat a medium size skillet on low heat and add the olive oil.

Then add the sliced onions,

salt,

pepper,

and red wine.

Sauté the onions…

…until they start to caramelize…

… (about 25 minutes).  Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.

For the Burger:

Sprinkle the salt, pepper,

and garlic powder over each side of the hamburger patties.

Heat the same pan that the onions were cooked in on medium heat and add the hamburger patties.

Cook about 4 minutes on each side or until desired doneness…

…about 2 minutes before the burgers are done cooking…

…add 2 slices of cheese to each burger.   Remove the burgers from the pan and set aside on a plate.

If there’s not a little grease or oil left in the pan after cooking the burgers, drizzle in some olive oil and heat the pan on medium heat.

Add the rolls face down on the pan.  Move the rolls around the pan so they absorb any leftover remnants from cooking the burgers.

Cook until the bread starts to brown (about 3 to 4 minutes).

Add the cheeseburger on the bottom side of the roll.

Then,

add the onions, and the top side of the roll.

then dig in.

Thank you for stopping by and have a nice weekend.
