Slow Cooker Spicy Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

For the Ground Turkey:

  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 4 dashes ground black pepper

For the Sloppy Joes:

  • Cooked and browned ground turkey
  • 1 cup chopped green bell pepper approx. 2 medium size green bell peppers
  • 1 cup chopped onion approx. 1 medium to large onion
  • 3 cloves garlic peeled and chopped
  • 2 jalapeno peppers (red or green) stems and seeds removed, chopped
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

For the Ground Turkey:

  • Heat a large skillet on medium heat and add the ground turkey.  With a heat proof spatula, separate the ground turkey so that it's not lumped together.  Add pepper and stir.
  • Continue to cook until the ground turkey is thoroughly cooked and starts to brown around the edges of the meat (about 17 to 20 minutes).

For the Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes:

  • In a slow cooker pot, add the cooked and browned ground turkey, bell pepper, onion, garlic, jalapenos, ketchup, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, pepper, salt and water.
  • Mix all ingredients together until the meat is completely coated with the ketchup mixture.  Cover with a lid.
  • Cook on the low setting for 6 hours.  When it's done cooking, stir together.
  • Serve while warm on soft buns or rolls.
