1cupfresh squeezed and strained lemon juiceabout 4 to 5 lemons
4to 5 cups of ice cubes
1lemon, sliced into 1/2 inch thick slices (remove the seeds if possible)for garnish
For the Simple Syrup:
Heat a sauce pan on low to medium heat and add water, sugar, and lemon zest.
Bring the sugar and water mixture to a boil and stir.
Once the sugar dissolves (about 6 minutes) remove the mixture from the pan into a bowl and let cool. Let the bowl of simple syrup cool on the counter until the temperature drops enough to chill it in the refrigerator.
For the Lemonade:
In a large pitcher, add the strained lemon juice, cooled simple syrup, and water. Stir together and add the ice
Add sliced lemons to the pitcher and the serving glasses for garnish. Serve over more ice.
As an option, chill the serving glasses in the freezer. Then dip the rim of the glasses in sugar just before serving.
