Ingredients

For the Blueberry Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Zest from 1 lime
  • 1-1/2 cups fresh blueberries

For the Blueberry Limeade:

  • 1 cup of fresh squeezed and strained lime juice (about 6 to 7 limes)
  • 4 cups of cold water
  • Simple syrup with blueberries
  • 4 to 5 cups of ice cubes
  • ½ cup whole blueberries for garnish
  • 1 lime, sliced into about ½ inch wide slices, then quartered for garnish

Instructions

For the Blueberry Simple Syrup:

  • Heat a sauce pan on low to medium heat and add the water, sugar, lime zest, and blueberries. Bring the sugar mixture to a boil and stir.
  • Turn the heat down just a bit and continue stirring until the sugar dissolves (about 6 minutes in total).
  • Remove the pan from the heat and let cool for 45 minutes.
  • Pour the cooled blueberry mixture into a blender and blend until the blueberries are liquefied.  (It's best to first let the blueberry simple syrup cool before adding it to the blender or while blending the hot liquid could make the blender lid burst off and make a huge mess)  Set aside.

For the Blueberry Limeade:

  • In a large pitcher add the strained lime juice, cooled simple syrup, and water. Stir together.
  • When ready to serve, add ice to the pitcher.
  • To the serving glasses, add ice and the remaining whole blueberries (for garnish) intermittently. Add half-slices of lime into the serving glasses.
  • Pour the blueberry limeade into each serving glass and top with more whole blueberries.  Serve right away while ice cold.

Notes

TIP:

It's best to first let the blueberry simple syrup cool before adding it to the blender or while blending the hot liquid could make the blender lid burst off and make a huge mess.
