  • 2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper for the ground beef mixture
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 3 dashes salt
  • 4 dashes ground black pepper for the ground turkey patties

For the Vegetables and Bread:

  • 1 whole red bell pepper stem and seeds removed, cut the bell pepper lengthwise into 4 pieces
  • 2 thick slices red onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 slices sour dough wheat bread or the bread of your choice

For the Burger Toppings:

  • 2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 sprigs fresh basil leaves removed from stem

Instructions

  • Preheat the barbecue grill on medium heat.

For the Burger:

  • To a medium size bowl, add ground turkey, bacon, crumbled blue cheese, pepper, granulated garlic and salt.
  • Mix the turkey mixture together and make 2 patties.  Add a dash of pepper to each side of the patties.  Set aside for a moment.

For the Vegetables and Bread:

  • Brush olive oil over both sides of the red bell pepper, onions, and bread.
  • To each side of the bell peppers, onions and slices of bread, sprinkle granulated garlic, salt and pepper.

Grilling the Burgers, Vegetables and Bread:

  • On a preheated barbecue grill, place the turkey patties, vegetables, and slices of bread.
  • For the Vegetables and Bread - Grill the vegetables and bread until they have grill marks on each side (about 4 minutes per side for the vegetables and a bit less for the bread).
  • Then transfer the vegetables and bread onto a large plate.  The skin on the bell pepper can be removed at this point if desired.
  • For the Burgers - Grill the turkey burgers until fully cooked (about 6 minutes per side).

For the Burger Toppings:

  • Right removing the turkey burgers from the grill, top them with crumbled blue cheese.
  • To each slice of bread, add mayonnaise.
  • Place each turkey burger on a slice of bread.  Top the burgers with red bell pepper, onion and basil leaves.
  • Add the top piece of bread to the burger and serve warm.
