Cantaloupe and Coconut Berry Agua Fresca
For a quick and easy, light and refreshing drink that can be made in a matter of minutes, this agua fresca is just the thing.
Aguas frescas, Spanish for “cool waters” are so colorful and pretty especially when adding pieces of fruit and berries as garnish.
I love making these because not only are they thirst-quenching but they’re so easy to make.
Often times I’ll overdo it a little when buying too many berries or too much fruit at the grocery store.
I think oh, I’ll make this recipe or that recipe and then what happens? I run out of time so I end up freezing what I can and then make aguas frescas with the rest.
If I happen to have leftover juices or even coconut milk from a recipe I put them in the aguas frescas too.
To sweeten an agua fresca, simple syrup made with sugar and water can be used. Or even honey or agave nectar would be great too.
In this recipe I used a bit of regular sugar without making simple syrup.
Adding an herb along with the fruit can give an agua fresca a nice pop of flavor. In this recipe I added some mint.
To make an agua fresca you’ll need a mesh strainer or cheese cloth to strain out the pulp so that the liquid is clear.
Then just serve it in a glass with a lot of ice. Super refreshing.
Let’s check out the ingredients.
Cantaloupe, strawberries (frozen or fresh), coconut milk, mint, water and sugar (or honey, agave nectar)
A printable recipe with the measurements and instructions is located at the bottom of this post.
Here’s how to make it.
In a blender, add the cantaloupe…
…add coconut milk,
…blend on the juice setting or other high speed option.
Pour the mixture thru a mesh strainer into a large bowl or container with a pouring spout.
I sometimes make these ahead of time and store them in mason jars.
Serve the strained agua fresca over ice…
…and garnish with cantaloupe,
strawberries and shredded coconut (optional).
…enjoy each and every sip.
