This BLT sandwich made with extra bacon, lettuce and tomato, is delicious for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
A bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, also commonly known as a “BLT”, is a comfort food classic that never gets old.
Although each ingredient in this BLT tastes delicious on its own, when combined in the sandwich, they taste even better.
And it’s a quick and easy meal to make too, just add a side dish and dinner is served.
At the bottom of this post there are some side dish options to serve with a BLT sandwich you may like.
About this Recipe
This classic BLT sandwich is made with lightly toasted wheat sandwich bread and extra slices of crispy bacon.
It also has a generous amount of mayonnaise, extra sliced tomatoes and lettuce.
The extra ingredients are placed just outside the edges of the sandwich which adds beautiful color and eye appeal (especially if you’re really hungry).
With this larger portion size, a single serving can be a half sandwich or a whole sandwich if preferred.
The ingredients and step-by-step instructions for this recipe include direction for both a regular-size BLT (without extra ingredients), and a larger-size BLT (with extra ingredients).

HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
A printable recipe with the measurements and instructions is located at the bottom of this post.
PREPARATION
For the Bacon:
Cook the Bacon using your preferred cooking method.
Cook to the desired crispness.
For this recipe, I cooked the bacon in a microwave.
Cooking the Bacon in a Microwave – Lay 4 or 5 pieces of uncooked bacon (without overlapping) on a microwave rack pan.
Cover the uncooked bacon with a paper towel and cook the bacon to the desired crispness.
When the bacon is done cooking, use hot mitts to…
…carefully remove the pan from the microwave and set it on a heat-resistant surface.
Using tongs…
…transfer each slice of cooked bacon…
…onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess grease.
Set aside.
Drain the Grease from the Microwave Pan – Use a hot mitt to carefully hold the pan (it will be hot)…
…and carefully transfer the excess hot grease from the pan into a heat-resistant container*.
Repeat the process for the remaining pieces of uncooked bacon.
*Once the excess bacon grease in the container cools, it can be discarded.
For the Tomatoes:
Slice the tomatoes…
…and sprinkle ground black pepper on top of each slice.
Set aside.
For the Bread:
Toast the Bread – Lightly toast the bread in a toaster.
Spread the Mayonnaise – Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise on…
…each slice of the toasted bread.
ASSEMBLE THE SANDWICH
Below are directions for a regular size BLT (WITHOUT extra ingredients), and a larger size BLT (WITH extra ingredients).
For a Regular Size BLT (without extra ingredients):
Cooked Bacon – Lay the desired amount of cooked bacon on top of the mayonnaise on each slice of bread.
Tomatoes – On one slice of bread, top the bacon with sliced tomatoes.
Add Another Layer of Mayonnaise – Spread mayonnaise on top of the sliced tomatoes.
TIP – This layer of mayonnaise should help to keep the bottom layer of lettuce in place inside the sandwich.
Lettuce – Lay the lettuce leaves (as flat as possible) on top of the sliced tomatoes.
Serve
Carefully turn the slice of bread with just the bacon on it over onto the top of the lettuce.
Cut the sandwich in half and serve.
For a Larger Size BLT (with Extra Ingredients):
This larger sized sandwich is made with extra bacon, lettuce and tomato.
Bacon – When placing the bacon on the bread, lay out the slices so they extend past the outside edges of the sandwich.
If pieces of bacon are too short to extend outside of both edges of the sandwich, stagger them (i.e. one slice of bacon can extend outside the sandwich edge on the left side; and the next piece of bacon can extend outside of the sandwich edge on the right side, etc.).
Tomatoes – On one slice of bread, top the bacon with sliced tomatoes that lay slightly over the outside edges of the sandwich.
Spread mayonnaise on top of the sliced tomatoes.
Lettuce – Top the sliced tomatoes with lettuce leaves that lay over the outside edges of the sandwich.
Add Another Layer of Tomatoes – Top the lettuce with sliced tomatoes that lay slightly over the outside edges of the sandwich.
Serve
Carefully turn the slice of bread with just the bacon on it over onto the top of the lettuce.
…cut the sandwich in half and…
…serve.
Time to eat.
