Slow Cooker Spicy Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes

The slow cooker is such a helper in the kitchen and can be used year-round to make delicious meals.

In the summer I especially like to use a slow cooker because it doesn’t heat up the kitchen like an oven does.

So often when it’s late in the eve and I’m too tired to clean that big old slow cooker pot, I tell myself…

…this should really soak overnight before I clean it, and of course there’s no argument from me on the matter.

And there it sits on the counter only to greet me in the morning!

In this sloppy joe recipe, I used ground turkey.

I like how ground turkey soaks up the sauce and flavors in sloppy joes.

Oh and to spice this recipe up, it has hot sauce and jalapenos.  yum.

Sloppy joes are so good when served on a super soft bun or roll.

In this recipe I used Hawaiian rolls but soft hamburger buns taste really good too.

So let’s check out the ingredients.

Cooked and browned ground turkey, green bell pepper, onion, garlic, jalapeno peppers (red or green), hot sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, pepper, salt and water.

Here’s how to make it.

For the Ground Turkey:

Heat a large skillet on medium heat and add the ground turkey.

With a heat proof spatula, separate the ground turkey so that it’s not lumped together.

Stir as the ground turkey cooks.

Add pepper and…

…stir.

Continue cooking until the ground turkey is thoroughly cooked and it starts to brown around the edges of the meat.

For the Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes:

In the slow cooker pot, add cooked (and browned) ground turkey, chopped green bell pepper, chopped onion, chopped garlic, chopped jalapeno peppers, ketchup, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, pepper, salt and water.

Next,

stir together until the meat is coated with the ketchup mixture.

Cover with a lid and cook on the low setting for 6 hours.

When the sloppy joes are done cooking, stir together.

Serve warm on soft buns or rolls.

Being true to its name, extra napkins may be required.

Dig in and…

…enjoy each and every…

…bite.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
