Crispy Warm Cherry Pie Rolls
These crispy warm cherry pie rolls are made with just 3 ingredients. Each bite has a little crunch, fruit filling and creamy, slightly melted ice cream.
A warm dessert topped with vanilla ice cream is the best.
And it’s even better when there’s some crunch involved like with these cherry pie rolls.
This dessert tastes so good it seems like it would be much harder to make than it is.
About this Recipe
These cherry pie rolls are made with flour tortillas that are filled with premade cherry pie filling.
And the type of premade filling can be changed up to your liking.
For example, blueberry or apple pie filling would also taste wonderful.
The cherry pie rolls are lightly fried in canola oil and topped with powdered sugar.
And that’s it….super simple to make.
Just add vanilla ice cream on top and they’re ready to serve.
Of course, a little whipped cream and a cherry on top wouldn’t hurt a bit.
For Serving
This dessert is best when served warm so that the outside crust is crispy, and the warmth of the pie makes the vanilla ice cream slightly melt over the entire dessert.
When the warm pie filling meets up with the melted vanilla ice cream, the taste is glorious.
For the serving dish, a banana split bowl works nicely so that the melted ice cream can be eaten with a spoon.
If you’ve had a warm slice of pie served with ice cream on a plate before, you may know how hard it can be to get the melted ice cream in the spoon to eat along with the pie.
Desserts served with vanilla ice cream on top are so good.
Let’s check out the ingredients.
Crust – canola oil and large flour tortillas
Filling – canned cherry pie filling
Toppings – powdered sugar, vanilla ice cream…
…whipped cream or whipped topping and…
…Maraschino cherries with stems for garnish
HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
A printable recipe with the measurements and instructions is located at the bottom of this post.
For the Flour Tortillas
Set a flour torilla on a microwavable plate.
In a microwave, slightly warm a tortilla for about 38 seconds or less, just long enough to make it soft so that it will roll without breaking.
Add Cherry Pie Filling to the Tortilla
As soon as the tortilla comes out of the microwave…
…spoon the filling (apprx. 2 heaping tablespoons) in a narrow lengthwise area about an inch away from the sides of the tortilla.
Make the Cherry Pie Roll
Fold the front of the tortilla over the cherry pie filling as tight as possible all the way around the pie filling (so none of the filling can squeeze out when rolling the tortilla).
Fold over each of the sides in a 2-inch fold.
Then…
…roll the tortilla over the…
…pie filling as tight as possible.
Repeat this process…
…of filling and rolling the tortillas for as many servings as you would like.
Lightly Fry the Pie Rolls
To a medium size skillet, add canola oil so that it’s about 1-inch deep in the pan.
Heat the oil on medium heat and carefully put the pie rolls in the skillet.
The oil gets hot fast so keep an eye on it in case you need to turn the heat down a little.
Using cooking tongs, continue turning the pie rolls so they cook evenly.
Cook the pie rolls until they’re a golden color on all sides.
Then,
…carefully transfer the pie rolls onto a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
Serve
While they’re warm, using cooking tongs carefully put each pie roll on individual serving dishes.
Dust the pie rolls with powdered sugar.
Ice Cream and Toppings
Top each pie roll with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (or more if you like).
Add a good size dollop of whipped topping or whipped cream on top.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
This is best when served warm (but not hot) topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
