Loaded Jalapeno Chili Dog
This loaded jalapeno chili dog is flavor packed with every bite.
Hot dogs are great for piling on delicious toppings because you not only get a hot dog and bun, but also the toppings in each bite.
The hot dogs in this recipe are grilled on a barbecue and so are the buns.
Then the hot dog is topped with warm chili, and other scrumptious toppings that are piled high to the point where they’re almost falling off the sides.
All of the toppings, combined with the hot dog, is a perfect match.
To top it off even further, a quick and easy creamy sour cream and salsa sauce is drizzled on top.
Let’s check out the ingredients.
Hot dogs, chili, onion, tomato, jalapeno or Serrano hot peppers, avocado, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and hot dog buns
HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
A printable recipe with the measurements and instructions is located at the bottom of this post.
If a barbecue grill is used to cook the hot dogs, start by preheating the grill on low heat.
Prepare the Toppings:
Chop the onions,
…tomatoes,
…and hot peppers.
Then cut the avocado into bite size pieces.
This avocado was very soft, so I had to cut it in smaller pieces.
If the avocado wasn’t so soft, I would have cut it in larger pieces or even into slices.
Big pieces of avocado are so pretty as a topping on hot dogs.
Shred the cheese.
Put the onions, tomatoes, hot peppers, avocado and cheese on a plate or in bowls for easy access and set aside.
Heat the Chili:
Next, heat the chili in a small pan or in the microwave (using a microwave-safe bowl).
Grill the Hot Dogs and Buns:
To a preheated grill, add the hot dogs (or boil them, or even cook in the microwave if preferred).
Turn them every 2 minutes until there are grill marks on each side.
Then add the buns face down on the grill (or toast, or steam them if you like).
One way to steam them is to lay a small cooling rack over a pot of boiling water and lay the buns on the rack for a minute or so; just long enough for the buns to get soft.
Assemble the Hot Dogs and Toppings:
Lay the toasted or steamed buns on a plate and add about 1/2 cup of warm chili to each bun.
Then,
…on top of the chili add the hot dog.
Next,
…top with the rest of the chili.
Top with shredded cheese,
…and onions.
I used red onions but yellow, white or even green onions can be used instead.
Top with tomatoes…
…avocados and hot peppers.
In a small bowl, mix the sour cream and salsa together to make a sauce…
…add the sauce on top of all the toppings.
Lastly,
…garnish with any remaining ingredients such as the cheese, onions and more hot peppers that you may have.
Serve:
Serve warm.
