Malt Vinegar Potato Chip Dip
Get ready to pucker up with this vinegar-based potato chip dip that will make your mouth water just thinking about it.
Have you ever tried Salt and Vinegar flavored potato chips?
Who would have thought that the bitter taste of vinegar could taste so good on a potato chip, but it sure does.
And with salted potato chips, it’s a perfect match.
About this Recipe
Inspiration for this recipe comes from a lunch I had at a seafood restaurant that served homemade potato chips with a delicious malt vinegar aioli sauce.
The aioli sauce had a bitter bite to it and tasted so good with salted potato chips.
It was so good that I just had to make a similar tasting recipe and malt vinegar has just the taste I was looking for.
The main ingredients in this dip are malt vinegar, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise and sour cream.
And it’s really good as a dip for salted potato chips, French fries, and fish sticks.
Let’s check out the ingredients.
Mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard, malt vinegar, granulated garlic, pepper, and a small bit of sugar

This really looks delicious. Do you think this would be good as a salad dressing? I’ve been looking for a dressing recipe using malt vinegar and I love these ingredients. Thank you in advance.
Hi There! Great question. The tartness of this malt vinegar dip is especially delicious when served with salty potato chips. The salt and vinegar go so well together, one complements the other. For this dip to taste good as a dressing, I’m thinking that there may need to be something salty in the salad too. Maybe something like Greek olives, green olives or anchovies. It’s definitely worth testing it out, perhaps on a leaf of romaine lettuce and see if you like the combination. Now I’m curious about this too and will test it out myself. Thank you for asking this question.
Oooooo…I love that flavor of potato chips! This dip has my name written all over it, thanks for sharing!
Hi Brenda, thank you and have a great week!
I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but when I was younger, I would eat salt and vinegar chips until my mouth was raw…I LOVE vinegary things…all types of vinegar. Malt vinegar is definitely delicious! I love it on my fish n chips and had never thought to make a dip out of it. Pure brilliance, I tell ya! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!
Hi Julia, I completely understand, that’s the kind of thing I did as a kid too (and even now as an older kid). Thank you for stopping by and have a nice weekend!
I have a big bottle of malt vinegar that only gets used when we have fish, but now that I see this delicious dip-it will be used quite a bit more. I love the idea of this and it is probably better for you than the actual flavored chips because most flavored chips have msg along with artificial ingredients.
I am saving this recipe and I am glad that your tasting at the restaurant inspired you to make it at home! Delicious post!
Hi Tina, so glad you liked it. Have a nice weekend.
