Fried Chicken Strips with Honey Mustard Sauce
It’s hard to stop eating these fried chicken strips because they’re so good. And they’re even better when dipped in honey mustard sauce.
These fried chicken strips make the best finger food.
And they’re easy to make because all you need are 5 ingredients…chicken, salt, pepper, flour and canola oil.
This is my go-to fried chicken recipe which is also how my grandmother used to make it.
Well, there were a couple very slight differences between how my grandmother made her fried chicken and how I make it.
She used vegetable oil and an electric skillet, and I use canola oil and a skillet on the stovetop.
Although I love the taste of my fried chicken, hers was always better because she made it.

The sweet and tangy honey mustard sauce is the perfect complement to the savory fried chicken.
The kitchen smells delicious when cooking this fried chicken.
Just like comfort food.

A printable recipe with the measurements and instructions is located at the bottom of this post.
Prep Before Making the Chicken:
Rack for the Cooked Chicken
Set a wire cooking rack (small to medium size) on top of a large plate.
Set aside.
The fried chicken strips will be transferred from the skillet onto this rack to drain off any excess oil.
Flour
In a medium size shallow bowl, add the flour.
Set aside.
Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, add mustard…
…and honey.
Whisk together…
…until both ingredients are incorporated.
Set aside.
For the Fried Chicken Strips:
Cut the Chicken
Place the chicken on a large plate or a cutting board that’s used for meat only.
Cut the chicken breast widthwise on a diagonal…
…into 4 evenly sized pieces.
Season and Flour the Chicken
To all sides of the cut pieces of chicken…
…evenly add…
…salt and pepper.
To the bowl with the flour…
…add each piece of chicken.
Dredge the chicken in the flour so that its evenly coated on all sides.
Set aside for a moment.
Cook the Chicken
To a large skillet, add canola oil.
Heat the skillet on medium heat.
Add a pinch of flour to the oil.
When the flour in the pan starts to bubble…
…using cooking tongs, carefully add the cut pieces of chicken to the pan.
When the bottom sides of the chicken turn a golden color, using tongs, carefully turn them over.
As the bottom side of each piece of chicken turns a golden color…
…continue to carefully turn the pieces over until all sides are golden brown.
When the chicken is golden brown on all sides, and it’s thoroughly cooked (about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the number of servings made), turn off the heat…
…and using cooking tongs, carefully transfer the chicken from the skillet onto a cooking rack (that’s placed on a large plate).
Serve
TIP – While the chicken sets on the rack to drain off any excess oil (for about 2 minutes), stir the honey mustard sauce one last time just before transferring it into small personal-size dipping bowls.
Serve the fried chicken strips warm with…
…honey mustard dipping sauce.
